Burger King Student Athlete of the Year Winners 2013-2014
Sarah Andrews from North Kingstown High School, and Andrew Miner from East Greenwich High School, have been named Burger King Student Athlete of the Year winners for 2013-2014.
Sarah is a junior at North Kingstown High School, a member of the Girls' Soccer, Swim, and Track teams at North Kingstown High School. She holds an annual fundraiser to benefit the Domestic Violence Resource Center of South County. Over the past few years, her events raised over $3,000. Sarah also coaches youth soccer at Ocean State Soccer Club. She takes all honors courses and ranks #1 in her class of 358. She is a member of the National Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society, NKHS Leadership Academy, and NKHS Varsity Athletes Against Substance Abuse. She was chosen as the NKHS Hugh O’Brien Youth Leadership Ambassador for the Class of 2015, is 1st Chair Trombone in the NKHS Symphonic Band and Senior Jazz Band and earned the Class of 2015 top history student awards after her freshman and sophomore years.
Andrew is a senior at East Greenwich High School and was named the 2013 Wendy’s High School Heisman national male winner in December 2013. Andrew has been a 4-year starter at quarterback for the Avengers and is a two-time All-Division and two-time MVP of the team, as well as being captain of the team this year. He is also a member of the baseball team. He is president of the senior class, editor of the school newspaper, and a member of the drama club, jazz band, and concert band. Andrew is also an All State saxophone player. He is the recipient of the school’s Harvard Book Award, Excellence in English Award, a National Merit Semifinalist, and a member of the National Honor Society. Together with his classmates, Andrew has organized food, clothing, and school supply drives for communities in need, and he volunteers his time as a tutor and with the North Kingstown Jaguars Pop Warner Football Program.
