Showcase Student Athlete of the Year Winners 2014-2015
Karla Argueta from Shea High School, and Alexander Millen from Narragansett High School, have been named Student Athlete of the Year winners for 2014-2015. Each student will receive a $1,000 scholarship for the college of their choice.
Karla is a senior at Charles E. Shea High School who is a four year varsity member of the Girls’ Soccer team. This past season she was named All-Division and also selected as captain of her team. She is also a member of the basketball and golf teams at Shea. Karla’s extra-curricular activities include her participation in the CHOICES Leadership Conference, RISD POD classes, and at Shea High School as an active member of the Freshman Mentoring Program, College Crusades of RI, KEY Club, Photo Club, China Club, Student Council, S.M.I.L.E. Club, Art Club, Sewing Club and the Math League. Academically, Karla has a 4.29 GPA and is currently ranked #6 in her class and challenges herself by taking all Advanced Standing and AP courses. She is also a member of the National Honor Society and has achieved Honor Roll status each quarter of her high school career. Karla serves her community by volunteering at the Pawtucket Arts Festival, the Pawtucket Soup Kitchen, her church nursery, the Raider football concession stand and annually helps to make and distribute Thanksgiving Baskets for Pawtucket families.
Alexander is a senior honors student at Narragansett High School and a three sport athlete in football, wrestling and outdoor track. He is also a past participant in lacrosse. An all-league performer in football, Alexander is a captain of the wrestling and outdoor track teams. As an All-State wrestler in the heavyweight division, he has qualified and competed in the New England Championships throughout his high school career. Alexander has also achieved the honor of becoming an Eagle Scout with the Boys Scouts of America and is a member of the Narragansett High School Band and Jazz Band. Although undecided at this time, Alexander is considering several colleges and will pursue a degree in chemistry or biology.
