December 2014 Burger King Student Athlete of the Month
Holly Gerber-George from the Toll Gate High School, and Jacob Decelles from the North Smithfield High School, have been named winners of the Burger King Student Athlete of the Month for December 2014.
Holly is a three year member of the varsity Girls’ Basketball program at Toll Gate. In addition to athletics, Holly is a member of the Executive Club and the Secretary of the Spanish Club. Outside of school, Holly has been very involved with her church as music director, a vocal soloist and Youth to Youth volunteer. She is also currently the Deputy Commander of the Rhode Island Civil Air Patrol and participates as a member of both the Color Guard and Honor Guard. Holly has also found the time to work as a hostess at a local restaurant. An accomplished student, Holly has taken multiple Honors Classes at Toll Gate including English, Chemistry, Physics and AP European History. Presently, she is taking Spanish 4 Honors and Bio 2 Med Honors and a member of the National Honor Society while maintaining a 3.79 GPA. After high school, Holly plans to join the ROTC program and major in engineering at a four year college or university.
Jacob is a three-sport athlete that participates in soccer, golf and is currently the captain and a starting defenseman for the North Smithfield High School Boys’ Ice Hockey team. In the classroom, Jacob is ranked #7 in his senior class and is one of 98 high school student representatives throughout the United States to be chosen to attend the American Legion Boys Nation. The program was a week-long event held last summer which introduced the delegates to the structure and function of the federal government through lectures, forums and visitations to federal agencies, institutions, memorials and historical spots in and around Washington, DC. Jacob plans to attend one of the service academies next fall to study mechanical engineering. He is also the president of the Corps of Prospective Engineers, a National Honor Society member and a national finalist for the Parsons Brinkerhoff Engineering Collaborative.
