March 2015 Showcase Cinemas Student Athlete of the Month
Alva Hicks from the Classical High School, and Alexander Millen from the Narragansett High School, have been named winners of the Showcase Cinemas Student Athlete of the Month for March 2015.
Alva is a senior honors student at Classical High School and an All American track athlete. She was undefeated in Rhode Island in the weight throw and shot put winning the Division, Class and State Championships. Alva went on to win the Yale Invitational and Rhode Island College Invitational championships in the weight throw. She went on to claim one of the most sort after track & field titles at the prestigious Melrose Games and was invited to participate in the national championship held at the New Balance Armory in New York. Outside of track, Alva is a member of the school senate, the Classical Athletic Leadership Team that is responsible for community outreach and food bank drive. She is a mentor to middle school track athletes and was named to the RI Track Coaches Association Academic All-State team.
Alexander is a senior honors student at Narragansett High School and a three sport athlete in football, wrestling and outdoor track. He is also a past participant in lacrosse. An all-league performer in football, Alexander is a captain of the wrestling and outdoor track teams. As an All-State wrestler in the heavyweight division, he has qualified and competed in the New England Championships throughout his high school career. Alexander has also achieved the honor of becoming an Eagle Scout with the Boys Scouts of America and is a member of the Narragansett High School Band and Jazz Band. Although undecided at this time, Alexander is considering several colleges and will pursue a degree in chemistry or biology.
