March 2016 Showcase Cinemas Student Athlete of the Month
Kelly Gershkoff from Narragansett High School, and Sean Laverty from Cumberland High School, have been named winners of the Showcase Cinemas Athlete of the Month for March 2016.
Kelly is a senior at Narragansett High School. She is a two sport athlete participating in both the Girls' Volleyball and Unified Basketball teams. She is captain of the high school’s cheerleading team, which made it to Regionals for Rhode Island. This past season for volleyball, the team had a losing season. However, where some students struggled with being positive, Kelly excelled with her positive attitude and drive. She constantly encourages her teammates to keep going. Kelly finishes what she starts and never lets adversity get her down.
Sean is a senior at Cumberland High School. He has earned all-state, all-division and all-class in cross country and track for the past three years and is nationally ranked in cross country. He has recently attained the rank of Eagle Scout for his work with his team in making a portion of the Cumberland Monastery called “Nine Men’s Misery” accessible to all. In the community, Sean has participated in a variety of road races and helps with the Town’s Recreational Track meets for youths. He is a member of the RI and National Honor Society. Sean has challenged himself by taking AP and honors classes throughout his high school career and is ranked fifth in a class of over three hundred students.
