October 2014 Burger King Student Athlete of the Month
Kate McCormack from The Prout School, and Curtis Cory from Portsmouth High School, have been named winners of the Burger King Student Athlete of the Month for October 2014.
Kate is a senior at The Prout School. She is one of Prout’s leading scorers on the Girls’ Soccer team. Kate organized a week long drive to help collect gently used shoes for the organization Soles4Souls, which distributes the shoes collected in the United States and around the world. She set a personal goal of collecting 1,000 pairs of shoes and, to date, Kate has collected over 1,200 pair of shoes for her charity, and she will be collecting more. Being a four year varsity member of the soccer, basketball and lacrosse teams, Kate has still been able to maintain 3.5 GPA.
Curtis is a senior at Portsmouth High School and member of the football team. Curtis has suffered several injuries to include two torn labrums in his shoulder and a broken leg causing him to miss his entire freshman, sophomore and junior sports seasons. However, he persevered through his injuries and has come back in great fashion. In the community, Curtis volunteered and supported a 5K race to benefit a fallen Navy Seal who suffered from PTSD.
