September 2016 Showcase Cinemas Student Athlete of the Month
Kyla Shea from Portsmouth High School, and Antonio Rua from Burrillville High School, have been named winners of the Showcase Cinemas Athlete of the Month for September 2016.
Kyla is a senior at Portsmouth High School. She is a three-sport athlete that participates in Girls’ Soccer, Girls’ Indoor and Outdoor Track. Kyla has demonstrated great leadership and sportsmanship throughout her high school career and is currently Captain of the Girls’ Soccer Team. An active member of her school and community, Kyla serves as her Class Treasurer and has been a participant in many Newport County Service Projects as member of the Portsmouth High Community Service Club. In addition, she has spent four years as a volunteer youth camp counselor at her church bible camp. Kyla maintains a 3.63 GPA and has taken 7 advanced placement and 11 honors classes over the past 4 years. She is a member of the National Honor Society and was named a 2016 RI Scholar Athlete.
Antonio is a senior at Burrillville High School and participates in Boys’ Cross Country, Boys’ Indoor and Outdoor Track. He is currently the Captain of the Boys’ Cross Country team, Vice President of the National Honor Society and a member of the Burrillville High Varsity Athletes Against Substance Abuse Club. An honors student throughout his career, Antonio has been recognized as a winner of the St. Michael’s Book Award, the Claiborne Pell Award for Excellence, the Lawrence Tech Science and Math Award and an active participant in the Robotics Club.
