September 2014 Burger King Student Athlete of the Month
Adamaris Villar from Central Falls High School, and Sean Laverty from Cumberland High School, have been named winners of the Burger King Student Athlete of the Month for September 2014.
Adamaris is a senior at Central Falls High School, participating in girls cross country and has been named a captain this fall. Last season, she was awarded Most Valuable Player in both cross country and indoor track. Also, she was awarded the Rhode Island General Treasurer Gina M. Raimondo Young Leader Award. She has been an Ambassador at Central Falls High School for the past three years and a participant in the Shakespeare and Poetry Out Loud performance group. Adamaris has also found time to serve as vice president of her class and a participant in the Foreign Affairs Empowerment for Youth Program. She is also an outstanding student with a 4.3 GPA and ranked second in her senior class.
Sean is a junior at Cumberland High School. He has been all-division and all-class in cross country and track for the past two years and is nationally ranked in cross country. He is organizing team members to help him complete his Eagle Scout Project. He and the team are cleaning up a portion of the Cumberland Monastery called “Nine Men’s Misery.” In the community, Sean has participated in a variety of road races to include the Cumberlandfest and the Lukemia/Lymphoma 5K road races. He is a Junior National Honor Society member. Sean has challenged himself by taking AP and honors classes throughout his high school career and is ranked sixth in a class of over three hundred students.
