2019-20 RILL Student-Athlete of the Month
Every member school is encouraged to nominate a deserving male and female student-athlete each month. The goal of this program is to recognize the outstanding efforts of student-athletes in Rhode Island high school athletic programs who:
- Excel in the classroom
- Excel during competition
- Participate in multiple school sponsored sports
- Demonstrate good citizenship in their school and community
The Rhode Island Interscholastic League congratulates the RIIL Student-Athlete of the Month winners for February:

Theodore Simmons, North Kingstown High School: Besides being a member of the North Kingstown Boys Swim Team and Soccer Teams during his career at North Kingstown, Ted has also been a member of the school’s Sailing Program. Ted is a captain of the Boys Swim Team and is an All-Academic selection during his time on the team. Ted has also represented NK on this season's High School Quiz Bowl. He is a 7-time Principals Honor Roll recipient and is ranked in the top 10 of the senior class - a class of over 350.
Alaynah Rubio, Davies Career & Technical High School: Alaynah is a high honors student with a 3.5 GPA and a 3-sport athlete (soccer, basketball and softball), all while holding down a job. A four-year starter and a three-year captain of the softball team, softball is where she shines, but she also earned a starting role on the basketball team and was named a senior captain. And although she only started playing soccer two years ago, she started in goal for Davies this entire season despite never having played the position before, finishing in the top 8 for saves. Be it on the field, court or classroom Alaynah gives it her all. Even though she is a great student and athlete, this is not what makes her special. The part that really makes Alaynah an incredible person is her unselfishness. She is always willing to help anyone, be it with class work, sports or just about anything. Alaynah is a true leader and a role model. That hard work has paid off, as she will be attending and playing softball at Division II West Virginia Wesleyan College in the fall.
