November 2014 Burger King Student Athlete of the Month
Karla Argueta from the Shea High School, and L. Marquise Scott from the Rogers High School, have been named winners of the Burger King Student Athlete of the Month for November 2014.
Karla is a senior at Charles E. Shea High School who is a four year varsity member of the Girls’ Soccer team. This past season she was named All-Division and also selected as captain of her team. She is also a member of the basketball and golf teams at Shea. Karla’s extra-curricular activities include her participation in the CHOICES Leadership Conference, RISD POD classes, and at Shea High School as an active member of the Freshman Mentoring Program, College Crusades of RI, KEY Club, Photo Club, China Club, Student Council, S.M.I.L.E. Club, Art Club, Sewing Club and the Math League. Academically, Karla has a 4.29 GPA and is currently ranked #6 in her class and challenges herself by taking all Advanced Standing and AP courses. She is also a member of the National Honor Society and has achieved Honor Roll status each quarter of her high school career. Karla serves her community by volunteering at the Pawtucket Arts Festival, the Pawtucket Soup Kitchen, her church nursery, the Raider football concession stand and annually helps to make and distribute Thanksgiving Baskets for Pawtucket families.
Marquise Marquise is a two sport standout out in football and track and field. This past fall, Marquise was a two-way player for the Vikings varsity football program. In addition, he was selected to attend the Global Youth Leadership Council’s Civics conference at George Mason University to represent the State of Rhode Island. He is also the Civics Student of the Month. Marquise has participated in the Life Program at Bryant University. He is very involved at his church and serves as a junior deacon, usher and is a part of the building committee. He also is an active member of the Newport Boys/Girls Club and is a leader in the Incase group that plans positive events and homework help for the youth. Marquise also finds time to participate for the Newport Rugby Club. He currently carries a 3.5 GPA in AP and Honor classes and is a National Honor Society member. Marquise also founded his own business in 2013.
