WARWICK, RI – The Rhode Island Interscholastic League will honor 19 individuals, including 16 student-athletes, for their exemplary achievements over the past year at its 14th annual RIIL Awards Breakfast, to be held Thursday, April 30, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. at the Chelo’s Banquet Room, 2225 Post Road, Warwick, R.I. Students answer just one question: If you had $1 million to improve the lives of those most in need in Rhode Island, how would you do it? One winning idea receives $1 million to bring it to life plus a $25,000 scholarship, and nine finalists receive $5,000–$15,000 scholarships. Deadline to apply: April 7, 2026.

Navigant Credit Union delivering $10K in grants & scholarships to RIIL schools Representatives from the Rhode Island Interscholastic League and Navigant Credit Union were back out on the roads this week with their ceremonial check in hand, traveling from Cranston to Burrillville to Pawtucket to recognize the top performing students and schools in the second annual Financial Trivia Challenge. Open to RIIL-member high school and middle school students, the second annual Financial Trivia Challenge, sponsored by Navigant Credit Union, was a fun way for students to test their financial literacy through a virtual program. From February 2nd to March 17th, participants could log into the app and answer as many financial trivia questions as possible within 2 minutes. Students were welcome to take the challenge up to 30 times to try and improve their score, while comparing their results with others from across the state. Nearly 1,800 students from 28 cities and towns participated in the challenge over the last month and a half.

The Rhode Island Interscholastic League (RIIL), in partnership with the Amica Mutual Pavilion, will host a press conference featuring the six teams competing in the 2026 RIIL Girls and Boys Ice Hockey Championships on Monday, March 16th at the AMP. The event will include remarks from state and RIIL leadership, as well as coaches and student athlete representatives. The 2026 RIIL Hockey Championship Finals, presented by Ortho Rhode Island, will be held on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, at the AMP.

RIIL Competition Cheerleading Championships, presented by Cheer UP Athletics, & Credit Union Basketball Championships to be decided this weekend at the Ryan Center The RIIL Credit Union Basketball Championships Press Conference will be held Friday, March 13 at 9:30 a.m. at the Ryan Center. The eight teams that have qualified for the Final Four of this weekend’s Rhode Island Interscholastic League Girls and Boys Basketball State Tournaments will be in attendance. The “Road to the Ryan Center” began with the top 16 girls teams and top 16 boys teams in the Power Rankings after the completion of the RIIL Divisional Playoff Tournaments qualifying for the State Tournament. The teams that have advanced to the girls semifinals include Westerly High School (#1 seed), Barrington High School (#2), Ponaganset High School (#3), and the winner of tonight's quarterfinal between North Kingstown High School (#4) and Portsmouth High School (#5).

The Financial Trivia Challenge presented by Navigant Credit Union, is a fun, digital competition designed to assess and strengthen students’ financial literacy! The contest opens February 2 at 7 a.m. Students can take the quiz up to 30 times through 11:59 PM on March 17th. Students and schools can win prizes totaling $10,000. More than 250 Rhode Island high school students and chaperones representing 30 schools attended the third annual RIIL/KyleCares Teen Mental Health Summit, held January 8th at Gaige Hall on the Rhode Island College campus. The workshop - provided free of charge to students from RIIL member high schools – was part of a unified proactive approach by the RIIL and KyleCares - also made possible with the support of RIC's Student Success - to advocate for mental health awareness across the RIIL community. The goal was for students to leave the Summit armed with knowledge about how to help both themselves and their peers and inspired to positively impact their schools, by leading a change in culture as mental health advocates.

The RIIL is pleased to announce its continued partnership with UA Local 51, the trade union for plumbers, pipefitters and refrigeration technicians in Rhode Island and Southeastern Massachusetts. As part of its partnership with the RIIL, Local 51 will provide a $500 trade scholarship to one graduating senior interested in pursuing a career in the trades industry.
