2019-20 RILL Student-Athlete of the Month
Every member school is encouraged to nominate a deserving male and female student-athlete each month. The goal of this program is to recognize the outstanding efforts of student-athletes in Rhode Island high school athletic programs who:
- Excel in the classroom
- Excel during competition
- Participate in multiple school sponsored sports
- Demonstrate good citizenship in their school and community
The Rhode Island Interscholastic League congratulates the RIIL Student-Athlete of the Month winners for January:
Cameron Erickson, North Providence High School: A role model to students both in the classroom and in the pool, Cameron maintains a rigorous honors and AP level schedule while excelling in the sport of swim. A captain both as a junior and a senior, he demonstrates excellent leadership and is humble and kind to all, writes Cougars coach Crystal Bozigian. Cameron is also a member of the school's National Honor Society and participates in various community service projects. Additionally, Cameron is enlisting with the Marines and answering the ultimate call to duty.
Charlotte Simmons, North Kingstown High School: Despite a knee injury that sidelined her for half of the soccer season, Charlotte was named to the Providence Journal All-State second team. An All-Division, as well as All-Academic selection in both Indoor and Outdoor track and field for the Skippers, she has qualified for the state meet each of the past two seasons. Ranked in the top 5% in her graduating class and a member of the National Honors Society, she is also involved with the school’s Leadership Club, assisting with Unified Sports, including the Middle School Cross Country Championships held at North Kingstown. Charlotte will be attending Central Connecticut State University on a soccer scholarship in the Fall.
