2019-20 RILL Student-Athlete of the Month

Every member school is encouraged to nominate a deserving male and female student-athlete each month. The goal of this program is to recognize the outstanding efforts of student-athletes in Rhode Island high school athletic programs who:

  • Excel in the classroom
  • Excel during competition
  • Participate in multiple school sponsored sports
  • Demonstrate good citizenship in their school and community

The Rhode Island Interscholastic League congratulates the RIIL Student-Athlete of the Month winners for March:

Mason Clarke, Coventry High School: Mason was named the "Outstanding Wrestler" at this year’s R.I. State Tournament, where he pinned his opponent en route to winning the 132-pound title. A week later, he capped off his undefeated senior season as the only R.I. wrestler to win a New England Championship. Academically, Clarke ranks 34th in his class with a weighted GPA of 4.457. “He is a great young man with integrity that can be counted on to always do the right thing,” Coventry athletic director Chuck Jones said of the Oakers captain. “Mason is well liked by his teachers, the administration and his peers. He is well deserving of this award, not only for the school but the state.”

Ana Vygoder, Lincoln High School: In addition to being a member of Lincoln’s girls volleyball, girls swim and boys tennis teams, Ana is a member of the National Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society and Business Honor Society, while also interning with the Lincoln Police Department. Last fall she earned All-Division honors in her first year playing for the volleyball team. In the winter, she then helped the swim team win the Division II Championship as a member of the Lions’ fourth-place 200 medley relay team and second-place 200 freestyle relay team. Ana also helped Lincoln to a fourth-place finish at the State Swim Meet. Before the cancellation of the spring sports season, she was set to be a big contributor on the boys tennis team at #1 Doubles. This fall Ana will attend Rhode Island College, where she will be continuing her swimming career and double majoring in Criminal Justice and Psychology.
