December 2018 Showcase Cinemas Student Athlete of the Month
Olivia Barboza of Cumberland High School and Hezekiah Adeyeye of Woonsocket High School have been named winners of the Showcase Cinemas Athlete of the Month for December 2018.
A senior tri-captain of the Cumberland High School Varsity Girls Swim Team, Olivia is a three-year letter winner and a crucial point contributor in the "depth category" of the program. She is projected to qualify for the RIIL State Championship Meet in the 100 yard butterfly, 50 yard freestyle and in key relay events. Olivia is also a standout student carrying a GPA of B+/A- with a rigorous course load. But that’s not all. She has made it her mission to do everything she can to better the lives of the less fortunate in Cumberland and in the Blackstone Valley area, coordinating team activities to prepare food baskets and provide gifts to families who cannot afford them during the holiday season. To fund both of the activities, Olivia planned and carried out a 5K race that has raised in excess of $9,000. She is also an active participant in the Best Buddies Program at CHS.
Hezekiah is a very unique student-athlete who excels in five different sports at Woonsocket High School - MVP in soccer (D-III), placekicker/wide receiver on Division II Super Bowl winning football team, top sprinter on the Indoor track team, top pitcher/outfielder on the baseball team and school record-holder in the 400 on the Northern Division Champion Outdoor track team. In addition, Hezekiah has a 3.85 GPA with near perfect attendance and tutors fellow athletes in math. He is a fierce competitor who enjoys tough competition in every sport which he plays, but he is also the first to congratulate opponents at the conclusion of games!
